We are a musical congregation – visitors discover quickly that people of St. Michael’s sing and play a wide variety of music to support the liturgy. We come from many lands - Australia, Europe, the Americas, and Africa. On any Sunday, besides standard hymns from England and Germany, our music may include traditional folk songs from the American south as well as from the Caribbean.
If you play any instrument, be it a violin or a thumb piano, you have an opportunity to participate in the liturgy, which means "work of the people." As a singer, you may join the choir or simply sing from the pew. Additional music opportunities at St Michael’s include: Handbells No experience needed. If you’ve ever been told you have good rhythm, you have already met the entrance requirement for handbell participation. Note reading is not essential, but is helpful. The handbell choir rehearses on an as needed basis and is deployed on feast days and for special services. Choir Meets Thursdays at 7:30 PM. in the church. Open to adults and teens. This group is responsible for offering anthems and for leading congregational singing each Sunday. If you can match a pitch, you’ve passed the entrance exam. The choir is both a service AND an educational opportunity. At weekly rehearsals, we strive to deepen our understanding of God’s gift of music. If you are not a music reader, you will soon find yourself becoming familiar with music signs and symbols. Concerts Thanks to some generous gifts by parishioners, we at St. Michaels have enjoyed a number of 1st class performances by visiting musical groups. We aim to offer a variety special programs that enlighten and enliven our spirits. The charge is free and Visitors are Heartily Welcomed! Keep your eyes peeled for notice of these events. Gifts Monetary gifts to the St. Michaels music program will be matched dollar for dollar through the Laura Martens endowment fund. Gifts of any size are GRATEFULLY accepted and appreciated. Checks may be made payable to St. Michael & All Angels with a notation for "Music Dept. matching gift."
